Katrina
I have been riveted to the coverage of Katrina. The desctuction and loss is staggering, and sadly it seems that the poor are the hardest hit. The situation continues to get worse instead of better. The refugees from the SuperDome are slowly making their way to the AstroDome. Additionally, there are already many of refugees in Houston who are being turned away at the AstroDome. It is heartbreaking. I know if I were still in Houston, I would be doing what I could to take in someone that needed a place to stay. I have compiled a list of links to sites you can visit to volunteer to house people fleeing the destruction in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

Even though I am in New York now, I am thinking of signing myself up. It is obvious that this crisis is national and not just regional.
If you cannot open your home, please consider a donation to the Red Cross. No donation is too small.
This is all so sad…I feel horrible for the people down there and even worse because I can’t do anything to help them out. It also effects me personally because 3 of the internships I was applying to were in the New Orleans area. One was at Tulane U. where they don’t even know if they will reopen. Let me know if you are planning on elping in any way and I’ll see what I can do to pitch in. Talk to you soon! Love you.

I’m from there. I still don’t know where half my family is. It will get better!

Don’t worry. All of us hillbillies down here in southeast Texas are footing the bill to feed, house, and employee the refugees. They are wrecking our towns, but we do out duty in spite of the hatred you liberals have for us.
None of our work and expense will be remembered or appreciated, but we will do it just the same because we know the difference between right and wrong.
You laugh at our morality regarding social issues, but that morality sure does become useful when people are homeless and starving.
The next time you advocate yet another government program or forced social convention, think of what *really* happens when the chips are down.
