Still Reality-Based After All These Years

Republicans in Nevada Hate Democracy

It appears that Republicans in Nevada feel the only way they can win elections is by cheating:

The I-Team has obtained information about an alleged widespread pattern of potential registration fraud aimed at democrats. Thee focus of the story is a private registration company called Voters Outreach of America, AKA America Votes.

The out-of-state firm has been in Las Vegas for the past few months, registering voters. It employed up to 300 part-time workers and collected hundreds of registrations per day, but former employees of the company say that Voters Outreach of America only wanted Republican registrations.

Two former workers say they personally witnessed company supervisors rip up and trash registration forms signed by Democrats.

“We caught her taking Democrats out of my pile, handed them to her assistant and he ripped them up right in front of us. I grabbed some of them out of the garbage and she tells her assisatnt to get those from me,” said Eric Russell, former Voters Outreach employee.

Eric Russell managed to retrieve a pile of shredded paperwork including signed voter registration forms, all from Democrats. We took them to the Clark County Election Department and confirmed that they had not, in fact, been filed with the county as required by law.

So the people on those forms who think they will be able to vote on Election Day are sadly mistaken. We attempted to speak to Voters Outreach but found that its office has been rented out to someone else.

Of course I shouldn’t limit this to just Nevada Republicans…

The company has been largely, if not entirely funded, by the Republican National Committee. Similar complaints have been received in Reno where the registrar has asked the FBI to investigate. [emphasis added]

That’s right., the national party is sponsoring and condoning this disgusting behavior. That means that Chairman Ed Gillespie probably knows about this and either condones it or has seemingly done nothing to stop it. It’s not much of a stretch to think that Karl Rove and people he works for are involved as well (BTW there is a term for this kind of thing—“ratf*cking operations”—and Karl Rove cut his political teeth on this stuff).

How can any patriotic American with a conscience and a love for Democracy support these goons? A Republican Party comprised of decent, honorable folks no longer seems to exist. It has been destroyed and replaced by vile, win-at-all costs, radical scum. That may sound harsh, but sometimes the truth hurts. The sickening behavior described in this article, unlike, say, criticizing Administration policy on the Iraq war, is un-American. It is also a crime. I hope people end up in jail over this one.

  1. If democracy is good enough for Afghanistan, I think it’s good enough for here too.

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away…uh, wait, wrong story…. It was a dark and stormy night…no, that’s not it, either…. Slowly, gently, with a touch that belied her barely-restrained passion…her gentle fingers,…

  4. Yikes! I still can’t believe that Bush won! I can’t believe that the media hasn’t been covering this (well actually yes I can). ]

I feel the same as you do and just because the election is over doesn’t mean the fight for democracy is done.
