Still Reality-Based After All These Years

If you can’t win ‘em over scare the crap out of ‘em

The following appears on the front page of CNN as I write this post:

BREAKING NEWS Homeland Security chief to warn of possible al Qaeda attack to influence U.S. elections, administration official tells CNN. Details soon.

I don’t know all the details yet, but if the threats turn out to be as specific as in the past, the Bush Administration’s M.O. is getting pretty transparent — when things are looking bad for Bush the best solution is to try to scare the public back into supporting him.

That’s what this election is really about… Fear vs. Optimism. Bush is the candidate of Fear.

Update: Now there is an article.

And surprise, surprise…

No new specific intelligence exists, and Ridge will not announce that he is raising the national color-coded threat level beyond the yellow, or elevated, level.

It was not immediately clear how the assessment of existing intelligence has led Ridge to his planned remarks.

Couldn’t have anything to do with the good press and big polling bump Kerry and Edwards are getting, could it?
