Still Reality-Based After All These Years

Bastards

Right-wing, dissent-stifling, thought-police, assholes are trying to get ABC to scuttle Janeane Garofalo’s pilot because she has an opinion that they don’t like.

Will another anti-war celeb take a career hit? Bush supporters have been deluging ABC with calls and e-mails, complaining about a sitcom the network has in development starring outspoken war protester Janeane Garofalo.

ABC HAS reportedly been working on the comedy, in which Garofalo plays a producer at a TV newsmagazine.

The pro-war protesters are threatening to organize a major campaign against ABC, including a boycott of advertisers, if the network airs the show

“We do not wish to see the faces of liberal Hollywood, particularly those that provided aid and comfort to Saddam Hussein,” protester Jon Alvarez e-mailed ABC. “We will stand up and fight for our right to request their exclusion from shows and sponsors that seek our attention.”

Spokesmen for ABC and Garofalo had no comment.

I don’t know about you, Mr. Alvarez, but I think stifling public discourse, forcing one side of the issue on an entire public, and stopping someone whom you disagree with form working, is more akin to giving “aid and comfort to Saddam Hussein” than disagreeing with government policies. I mean, after all, the way you want this country run is the way Saddam ran things over in his country.

I am so sick of these pricks.

  3. Here’s a simple solution….how about if u don’t like her OPINIONS, don’t watch her show. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Including actors…and just because someone doesn’t like it…doesn’t mean that someone else has to loose their way of income…way of living. U don’t like Garofalo, don’t watch her. Plain and Simple

  4. Valkyrie, that logic is just lost on the FReepers and facists. Any position that requires actual thinking and not the parroting of RNC blastfaxes is so far beyond them, that they would go into shock if actual, original, thinking occurred.

Remember, these folks wanted to be protected by the “V-chip”, refusing to use the O-N/O-F-F switches on their TV’s, since that too requires some crtical thinking and analysis of a publication as complex as TV Guide.

  5. How about if she has the right to free speech that we as American’s have the right to free speech!!! she let that aligator mouth overide that hummingbird ass, what goes around come’s around

  6. Wow! You cowardly liberals sure love to organize boycotts against conservatives and their advertisers. And you have NO IDEA about freedom of speech. Lemme break it down for ya: You have a right to your opinion. You have no right to be exempt from the CONSEQUENCES of your opinions! Remember John Racher, the dumbass pitcher? Or how about Jimmy the Greek? Or try this: go tell your boss what you REALLY think of him/her, and see if your freedom of speech means exemption from consequences. Liberalism is cowardice!

  7. I hate to feed the trolls, but…

I have never participated in a boycott against an advertiser for sponsoring someone whose political views I disagree with. I have never asked that others boycott a person with whom I don’t agree. In general, I don’t think that boycotting anyone or anything based on views they hold and/or something they said is very American at all. No matter who does it or what political label you choose to assign to them.

Boycotting a business, individual, or entire industry for an action that directly harms another party or limits free-market competition is another matter entirely. That is not the case with Ms. Garafalo, nor was it the case with any of the others you mentioned (neither of whom were “boycotted” as I recall).

BTW, it should not need to be said, but what I write on this blog represents MY personal opinion and in no way do I pretend to speak for any other individual or group. Therefore, while I may be “liberal” in my political leanings, I do not claim to represent each and every person who could be labelled a “liberal”. To conveniently tar a whole group of people based on one person’s opinion demonstrates that you are incapable of living up to your chosen moniker, “Clear Thinker”.

Finally, if you want to talk about cowardice, please note that least I sign my posts with my real name and therfore stand behind my views. I do not feel the need to hide behind an alias.

  8. It’s called free speech. If liberals had their way, there we wouldn’t have that right (obviously). Just as the left demonstrates on the streets, the right does through letters.
