Monty County, Tejas
While I was busy doing a Grape Nut spit-take over this morning’s latest chronicle piece on the goings on in Montgomery County, Charles was writing an excellent post about the RLC wingnuts up there.
Basically, the Republican Leadership Council, that puritantical group that has been banning books in past weeks, has now managed to have a ceramic fig-leaf placed over the ween of a statue of David. The RLC had deemed the statue which is perched atop a strip mall “pornographic” (tacky, yes. pornographic, no). They have also gotten a restaurant to remove some “offensive” pictures from their restroom walls. They are marking this all up to a victory for morality and virtue.
They are not satisfied with their “victories”, however…
Dianna Whitt of Shenandoah, whose complaint led to the addition of the fig leaf, said she shares the RLC’s views but prefers to call her protest a personal effort by a concerned citizen.
Whitt said she is not satisfied with the fig leaf and will press to have the statue moved someplace where children cannot see it without parental permission.
…
The Republican Leadership Council is continuing a boycott of the Buca di Beppo restaurant in the same shopping center because it has photos of nude statues and paintings.
Jenkins said he is not satisfied that the restaurant had removed a photo of a statue of nude wrestlers and a photo in the men’s restroom of a boy facing a wall, apparently urinating.
He said he will be satisfied “if they put a sign up in front that says, `Caution, this restaurant is R-rated.’ “
There is at least one sane person in the area, however:
The original founder of the Republican Leadership Council does not share that view.
“I’m more offended by what they are trying to do to that sculpture than (by) the sculpture itself,” said Eric “Bulldog” Yollick, a lawyer who resigned as RLC president last year and made peace with Wilkerson.
Noting that the statue is on top of a building, Yollick said, “I couldn’t see that high up unless I had binoculars.”
He said statues would have to be removed from around the Vatican if naked sculptures were rated as obscene.
My predicition is that the next RLC campaign will be a push for an ordinance to force dog-owners to place pants on their dogs. The last thing that the impressionable youth in Montgomery County need to see are exposed dog willies.
well, i’m glad to say i’m not a republican, that’s for sure…especially after reading about these idiots trying to cover up the willies of statues, LMAO!! and yes, i’m sure the doggies will be next…poor doggies! bad enough rich ladies make them wear sweaters in the winter!

I heard this story on the radio this morning and I found it appalling to think that there is such ignorance in our country. I think about all the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to defend our freedom and this how these idiots repay them, by censorship.

A few years ago (’98?), an exhibition of Rodin sculptures was placed in an adults-only area of a museum at BYU.
I can’t imagine discouraging kids from going to a museum… if the alternative is sitting at home watching TV.

Yet another chapter in the Right’s neverending fascination with the penis (see Lewinsky, Monica).
Has anyone here ever used a restroom at Buca Di Beppo? They’re FUNNY, people.

Yet another example of a Classic Simpsons episode coming to life.

Folks we need to make our opinions known at the ballot box. The commisioners court is pandering to the most intolerant but most vocal group.

Just another installment of laughable ignorance spotlighting Montgomery County, Texas - unfortunately shining on me. Goes right along with forcing a venue change for ‘Best Little Whorehouse in Texas’ last summer due to objectionable language. And.. the recent banning of a book deemed to be pornographic from the county library by our local saint and savior Judge Barb Sadler. I’m really tired of this dribble - these people need to move to Vidor or Clute to be with their own kind. I, personally can’t wait to research candidates and go to the polls to begin getting rid of these morons.

As a member of the Republican Leadership Council I was out of the forray doing my master’s thesis when this issue started but have been amazed at “liberal’s” lack of knowledge of who David was. Reading my bible I recall that David slaughtered every enemy that he conquered. To a liberal he would seem to be the pedestal to attack on their pursuit of “no death penalty” or in their accusation that conservatives are really nazistic and out to enslave or annihiliate everyone and their puppies too.
So simply because a guy dances nude down a street liberals rally behind him .. Hey if I promise to do that will you all repeal “Roe vs. Wade” or “Lawrence vs. Texas” or the other ridiculous court rulings that have basically state fornication, sodomy, and in the future molestation of minors (as in Denmark)as “fundamental” human rights. With such confused and morbid thinking it is no wonder liberals are in favor of euthanasia (probably for personal use). Yet in a dismal world Jesus Christ still offers the chance for life (present and future). As for me and my family we will serve the Jesus that saved us and gives a morality on which to base our lives .. Hope you’ll consider Him with an open mind .. happy complaining ..
