Transformers go boom!
This morning, three transformers blew up in downtown Houston. The first explosion was in the building where I park my car. I didn’t hear big “booms” or feel anything, but I was just exiting the building and entering the tunnel when I heard a slight “pop” and the lights went off. All the escalators also stopped working. The lights came on a moment later, and everything seemed okay. 2 or 3 minutes, after I got to my desk, the power in my building (and most others around it) went out. About a half hour later (~ 8:30AM), a voice came over the PA system and told of a “crisis” in the Howell Building. It then advised us to “stay calm”. Which of course about 20 people took to mean, “Get out, now!” I stuck around until 11:30AM when the temperature in our now un-air-conditioned office started to creep up to the uncomfortable mark. The linked article said that all buildings but one had power restored by 11:00AM. I guess we were the lucky building!
Anyway, I am working at home from a dial-up connection that is being taken to the limit by my work applications, so I believe blogging will be ultra-light for the remainder of the day.
Have a good weekend!
you’re in TX, too? poor thing…i think Houston is worse than here though…:-P (hotter, that is)
sorry to hear you’re on dial-up now…getting your work done must be like trying to push an elephant through french doors…hehe
