File Under: “What the Hell was he thinking?”
Embattled SEC Chairman, Harvey Pitt, proved himself to be a master of bad timing by asking Congress for a raise and a promotion to cabinet-level.
Even Ari blew off Pitt’s request:
In a press conference, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said Pitt’s suggestion had not been raised previously with President Bush and Bush was “not focused” on it.
“That’s not something that was raised with the White House,” Fleischer said, adding that the SEC already has “the status that they need to enforce the laws.”
Does this guy want to get fired?
I don’t know if the SEC specifically should be raised to cabinet-level or not, but at this rate the head of every department will be cabinet-level in fifty years and a cabinet meeting will start looking more and more like a session of congress.
Maybe if for ever addition to the cabinet another one could have its status revoked or disbanded.
