Every now and then, something comes along that makes me want to move to a deserted island and live out the remainder of my days in a darkened cave. These things are usually actions by individuals so stupid that I am greatly embarrassed to consider myself part of the same species.
This is one of those things:
Rename “The Two Towers” to Something Less Offensive Petition
Here is the language:
To: Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema
Those of us who have seen The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring know what an amazing director Peter Jackson is. When I learned that there apparently was to be a sequel, I was overjoyed. However, Peter Jackson has decided to tastelessly name the sequel “The Two Towers”. The title is clearly meant to refer to the attacks on the World Trade Center. In this post-September 11 world, it is unforgiveable that this should be allowed to happen. The idea is both offensive and morally repugnant. Hopefully, when Peter Jackson and, more importantly, New Line Cinema see the number of signatures on this petition, the title will be changed to something a little more sensitive.
To date, there are 1242 idiots who signed this thing. Therefore, even if it started as a joke, there is a thriving population of mouth-breathers that take the petition seriously.
Okay. I’ll try to calm down a little. There is a little disclaimer at the top of the page…. Trying to hold my thoughts. It’s not working…. Can’t..Hold..BACK…
HEY, YOU 1242 IDIOTS: “THE TWO TOWERS” IS THE TITLE OF A BOOK THAT WAS WRITTEN IN 1954 AT LEAST A DECADE BEFORE THE PLANS TO THE WORLD TRADE CENTER WERE EVEN DRAWN UP!!! THE TITLE HAS NOTING TO DO WITH 9/11!!! IT IS NOT “CLEARLY MEANT TO REFER TO THE ATTACKS ON THE WORLD TRADE CENTER”, YOU FRICKIN’ MORONS! GET OFF YOUR MOTHER-F-ING, POLITICALLY CORRECT, HIGH HORSES; SHOVE YOUR POMPOUS SENSITIVITIES UP YOUR COLLECTIVE ASSES; GET A GOD-DAMN LIFE; AND LEAVE THE REST OF US THE HELL ALONE!!!!!
Whew. I feel better now. I need a Bufferin.
Okay. Now that I am past my immediate reaction and have read the comments of some signers, it appears that many of the 1242 are considering this a joke. It did however receive coverage in this Janet Walls piece, so I took it seriously at first. It is not difficult to believe that whoever authored it, meant it to be taken seriously. My over-reaction just proves that I need a nap.

Not only did SOME of the commenters think the petition was a joke, but ALL of them did, including the author. Nothing to get too upset about. More here about it: http://... [self plug]
