Senate Passes Energy Bill

With the exception of striking down ANWR drilling, this pork-laden bill seems like it was mostly a waster of time. I think the bipartisan vote to pass it (Democrats and 45 Republicans) indicates that it is either so watered-down that the Republicans felt comfortable with it, or they know it will get dismantled in conference. As the article points out, the bill is notable for what is not in it rather than what is.

I thought this quote from Friends of the Earth President Brent Blackwelder was kind of funny:
While clearly superior to the House version, the Senate bill offers no coherent view of how to fuel our economy in a cleaner way. [It would have reflected] forward-thinking when Grover Cleveland was president.
